The Boy From Geita Trailer - A story about an Albino in Africa
  ext_2764781

I donate to this group, 'Under the Same Sun', that supports kids in Africa that are Albinos.  I guess it is the redhead in me that feels an affinity to fair skin that must stay out of the sun. In Africa, Albinos are often hunted for body parts as it is thought by superstitious people that they have magical powers.  The worst thing is that the witch doctors promote this and politicians, the very people supposed to protect them, go after Albinos in election years as it is believed that may boost their chances of getting re-elected.  There is a fund raiser coming up and here is a video about one boy that is an Albino and his journey to a safe environment. Under the Same Sun supports these kids, and gives them a school and a safe place to live. It may interest you to know about them.

UEFA is involved in political repressions in Ukraine(open letter)
  napivprovidnik

09:45am 27/09/2011

to Mr. Michel Platini President Union of European Football Associations

Dear Mr. Platini,

The image of UEFA and the European Football Championship which is to be held in Ukraine and Poland in 2012 may suffer irreparable blow due to the scandal developing around ProstoPrint, a popular Ukrainian printing company which applies images on souvenir products and clothes from the clients’ layout originals.

On September 6, 2011, as a result of militia raid against the office of ProstoPrint, the company’s activity was paralyzed, the equipment was seized and criminal proceedings were taken against the employees.  They are accused of illegal application of Euro 2012 logo on the clothing.  It was revealed at once that the militiamen themselves had ordered application of such logo on 50 T-shirts so as to obtain the grounds for suspension of the company’s activity.

When the militia arranged such provocation, they committed a number of gross outrages: search without an order, seizure of property without an order, interrogation of the suspects and examination of the witnesses with the use of physical and psychological pressure (threats of violence).

The militiamen did not have any grounds for such measures against ProstoPrint because it is a customer, the owner of the product, who is liable for observance of incorporeal rights, but not the company which provides printing services.  This is governed both by the Ukrainian laws and by the relevant EU directives.  The employees of ProstoPrint were not even obliged to verify the customer’s right to use the logo of Euro 2012.

The real reason of the “assault” against the company with all this iniquity was not the T-shirts produced through the militia’s provocation but quite another product, very popular T-shirts among Ukrainians with inscriptions including keen criticism at President Yanukovych.

Under the pretext of UEFA’s incorporeal right protection, the nondemocratic Ukrainian powers have unleashed the campaign of illegal persecution of its citizens for political beliefs.  In order to defend our rights and freedoms set forth in the Constitution, we will do our best to draw a wide international response to this scandal.

It is especially outrageous that UEFA patent agents in Ukraine are directly involved in the crime against ProstoPrint as they have already written an application to prosecute the employees of the company criminally on the ground of the gross provocation committed by the militia.

We kindly request you to interfere with this situation personally and to withdraw the application of UEFA patent agents against ProstoPrint due to absence of the formal components of a crime in the company’s actions and in that way to prevent from using UEFA as a tool for political repressions.

Last chance to save a man's life
  nothingtoyou

03:17pm 21/09/2011
EDIT: Troy Anthony Davis was executed on Wednesday 21st September 2011, at 11.08pm EDT.

At 7pm he was given a temporary stay of execution whilst officials debated what to do in light of the publicity and anger over his execution. And then they decided to go ahead anyway, to execute - to murder - an innocent man.

62,000 people emailed the Parole Board to demand justice. When they started blocking emails from Amnesty, people emailed from their personal accounts. When they blocked all emails people started phoning and faxing until they took the phone off the hook. People were phoning and faxing the judges who approved the death warrant, the Supreme Court, and the White House.

We did the best that we could for Troy. And although we didn't save his life, we told the world about the injustice done to him. An injustice that can't be undone, can't be apologised for.

Troy said yesterday:

“The struggle for justice doesn’t end with me. This struggle is for all the Troy Davises who came before me and all the ones who will come after me.”

We will mourn Troy. But we should also honour his memory by continuing to fight for him, and for others in the same situation.

The justice system must be fixed,so that an innocent person can never again be put to death.

Fight with us.

Feel free to friend me here, or follow me on facebook or twitter (WendyAttwell) as I will be posting further updates and action on Troy's case and the US justice system/death penalty.

Thank you.

EDIT: Things are moving fast now. Parole Board are blocking ALL emails! Please fax or phone them, and also email/fax/phone the Judges who have the power to withdraw his death warrant. Details here http://blog.amnestyusa.org/deathpenalty/resisting-troy-execution/ and here https://www.facebook.com/notes/leigh-craigmyle/take-immediate-action-to-save-troy-updated/10150291479066531

Thank you for caring.

Troy Davis was convicted of murdering a Georgia police officer in 1991. Nearly two decades later, Davis remains on death row — even though the case against him has fallen apart.

The case against him consisted entirely of witness testimony which contained inconsistencies even at the time of the trial. Since then, all but two of the state's non-police witnesses from the trial have recanted or contradicted their testimony.

Many of these witnesses have stated in sworn affidavits that they were pressured or coerced by police into testifying or signing statements against Troy Davis.

One of the two witnesses who has not recanted his testimony is Sylvester "Red" Coles — the principle alternative suspect, according to the defense, against whom there is new evidence implicating him as the gunman. Nine individuals have signed affidavits implicating Sylvester Coles.

Georgia's State Board of Pardons and Paroles has recently rejected Troy Davis' clemency petition. Troy continues to face execution on Wednesday Sept. 21 at 7 pm EDT (midnight Weds night UK time). Please take action before this time.

We cannot let an innocent man die.

Please take these two simple actions - asking the Parole Board to reconsider (they can change their mind at any time), and asking that Chatham County (Savannah) District  Attorney Larry Chisolm step in and withdraw the death warrant.

Take action here
http://takeaction.amnestyusa.org/siteapps/advocacy/ActionItem.aspx?c=6oJCLQPAJiJUG&b=6645049&aid=516533&msource=W1109EADP04D&tr=y&auid=9522344

We can't let them kill an innocent man. This really is Troy's last chance.

Thank you for your support.

UPDATE: THE PAROLE BOARD ARE BLOCKING AMNESTY'S  EMAILS, BUT YOU CAN STILL TAKE ACTION
Please forward the email below to the Parole Board at

and

Feel free to personalise the text or change the title of the email. We must keep the pressure on the Board, and let them know that the world is watching. Executing Troy would be an outrageous travesty against justice.

Dear Clemency Board members,

I call on the Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles to take all steps necessary to ensure that Troy Anthony Davis is not executed.

You have voted to deny him clemency despite the fact that significant doubts continue to plague his conviction. You must reconsider and reverse this decision immediately.

Seven of the nine witnesses have changed their story and no physical evidence links Davis to the crime. No one should be executed, especially when there are so many doubts about guilt.

This case has generated widespread attention because so many people in Georgia and throughout the world are disturbed by the thought of a man being executed when so
much doubt about his guilt remains unresolved.

Nothing can undermine public faith in a criminal justice system faster than an execution when there are still serious doubts about guilt.

Georgia cannot afford to make such a mistake, and I urge you to do everything in your power to prevent this injustice from taking place.

Yours sincerely,

[YOUR NAME AND AREA/COUNTRY]

The “Resurrection Plan“. A new hope for land and people.
  rotte_volf

05:22am 18/09/2010

villageAs we wrote recently, because of some circumstances we have been forced to elaborate alternative plan for Sunland location and development. And now our new Resurrection Plan originated as a result of this elaboration. What is it? What we can to offer our supporters and sympathizers around the world?

It's not a secret - in all cities in all countries there are large communities of anarchists, radical artists, ecologists, representatives of subcultures, and all those people who don't fit in with the normative rules of modern society. Searching the way out from stifling atmosphere of this tainted world they try to find some free spaces at least small and poor. So, if they achieve this they often resort to the practice of squatting. But their new Home is often threatened in the cases if some greedy rustlers have an eye on that place. Given this we modified the idea of squatting (though this modification occasioned by the actual situation in Russia).

As a result of so called "democratic reforms" the terrible mass depopulation befell Russia. More of all it concerns Russian countryside. And now many villages in Russia stand absolutely deserted. For eg. 2.500 from 8.000 villages in Pskov region (N.-W. Russia) are uninhabited. For the outside observer, it seems like some kind of genocide and more over - destroying traditional forms of living.

Also, our Resurrection Plan means that: 1) we must to find suitable empty villages, 2) go there to the reconnoiter, 3) select the most convenient place, 4) organize the first group settlers and volunteers, 5) legalize our eco-village with local authorities.

Certainly, first of all we figure on the Russian anarchists, libertarians, radical ecologists, artists and all those Russian young people who eager to the spiritual renovation. But our foreign friends have to watch the cause. This horrible monster - THE STATE (damn it forever and ever, amen!) - is the same everywhere. Far and wide where the state stretches its paws the life becoming intolerable (note this case). Because Freedom is indivisible, our foreign friends have to ready to come to the aid of Sunland in case of troubles.

Sunland Commune.

10:00pm 04/12/2009
For those who do the Greetings Card campaign, does anybody know what 'non-religious' means, specifically? I mean, obviously I'm avoiding Madonna-and-Child images and Bible verses. But does it extend to mentioning Christmas? Are Santa and "merry Christmas" counted as 'religious'? At the moment, I'm staying on the safe side - winter scenes, "season's greetings", that kind of thing. Maybe just a blank card with a penguin or a snowdrop or something, if I can find some.

I totally understand why getting religious is a Very Bad Idea in some cases. I just don't do well with vague guidelines. I like specific.

The creator of the first-ever images of Patriarch in pop-art style was severely beaten in St-Petersb
  rotte_volf

01:55am 01/03/2009
The creator of the first-ever images of Patriarch in pop-art style was severely beaten in St-Petersburg (Russia).

On Tuesday evening, 24 February, artist and poet Artyom Suslov (19 years old) went to the Moscow in order to transmit the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kiryl his portrait. He said, that when he went to the railway station, on the street he was surrounded by two men and they took out a knife. They accompanied him to a quiet place where first they gave "explanation" that Suslov "is living too freely," and that the Patriarch can not be the subject of a joke and then severely beaten.

Recall, that the scandalous poet and artist for the first time in Russia painted portrait of His Holiness in such extravagant artistic style. He said, that he was not intended business objectives and presents a picture as a gift, hoping that this will strengthen the connection of church and creative youth.

This is not the first intsendent this kind, which occurred with the artist. A year ago, Artyom Suslov - the leader of the art-movement "POP-REVOLUTION!" was beaten by unknown. At that time unknown people advised him to "terminate with rallies" against the dominance of pop music on TV and radio.

Artyom Suslov said, that it is very regrettable that he will not be able to give the picture to the Patriarch. Also he have to cancel creative evening that scheduled for the nearest future becouse he, at the insistence of doctors, was taken to the one of the hospitals of the city.

Urge Gov. Perdue to Support Clemency for Troy Davis

Troy Davis faces execution for the murder of Police Officer Mark MacPhail in Georgia, despite a strong claim of innocence. 7 out of 9 witnesses have recanted or contradicted their testimony, no murder weapon was found and no physical evidence links Davis to the crime. The Georgia Board of Pardon and Paroles has voted to deny clemency, yet Governor Perdue can still exercise leadership to ensure that his death sentence is commuted. Please urge him to demonstrate respect for fairness and justice by supporting clemency for Troy Davis.

To whom it may be interesting.

Dear friends:
I'll add several words regarding the information about sos_usa.livejournal.com (posted here on November 23, 2008). Next day I posted it in http://human_rights.livejournal.com., and in several hours I saw in my e-mail inbox the comment written by the sos_usa moderator. This is that comment(word to word):
"Pope_guilty, 11/24-08, 07.04 (http://human_rights.livejournal.com)
I banned your ass for bringing your spam about your grievance with the government to sos_usa. You already struck me as a spamming, attention-seeking crank, and this pretty much seals it".

Next morning there was another comment, which was not shown in the external page. I'll quote it here:
"Mymonkeyhassad, 11/25-08, 07.34 (http://human_rights.livejournal.com)
Can we delete him from here too? These letters are kind of ridiculous and not really doing anything to promote human rights, just complaining about places that do not accept his notes/faxes/ etc".

On November 25 I posted there my response. This is it:
"Dear friends:
Of course, I'll not respond the attack of the author of the first "comment". I am not accustomed to lead a discussion in an ethics level like that. Moreover, in the Soviet Union we were aware quite well about the way of organizing such kind of "criticism" against those who dared to open their mouths against KGB.
I would merely like to attract your attention to such a fact that the author of the "comment" did his best to avoid using the words "Secret Services". He used the word "government" instead of them. Why?
Moreover, I have one question. I know that there are several moderators in "Sos_Usa". Did the author of the "comment" act on behalf of all of them?"

As far as the second comment is concerned, I advise the author to read my basic article dedicated to the American Secret Services (http://speak_out.livejournal.com - September 8, 2008 and
http://amnestyint.livejournal.com - September 6, 2008). However, before that I advise him to take a look at "The World Declaration of Human Rights", which has been signed by USA as well by the way, of course, if he has ever heard about such a document, .

Thank you.

Dear friends:
On November 23, 2008 I tried to post in sos_usa.livejournal.com (the erosion of American Civil Liberties) a short information (it was posted here on November 14, 2008) connected with my basic article about some grave violations of the main Human Rights by American Secret Services. (It is well known that Human Rights are inseparable from civil liberties). I made several attempts and failed finally. Each time when I tried to post my information the following message appeared: "Error! Your note banned from the journal". Nobody clarified my confusion about the "error" that I had allegedly committed.
Some time ago, on October 26, 2008 I posted in sos_usa.livejournal.com my basic article about American Secret Services (see here on September 6, 2008), and it was immediately deleted with no explanations. On November 7 I repeated my attempt, and the article was deleted again

Dear friends:
Regarding the information posted here on October 5 and 26, 2008 I would like to give some more information. On October 15 I faxed my article containing some facts about serious violations of basic Human Rights by American Secret Services to the Washington office of the US Senator Harry Reid, the majority leader. When I was doing that the fax process was interrupted 6 (six!) times for some reason.

Next day, October 16, 2008 I performed the same thing to the Washington office of the US Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker. When I was doing that the fax process was interrupted 4 (four!) times for some reason. When it was completed, it turned out that there were neither the destination fax number in the fax receipt as it should be, nor the words "US House of Representatives" as the substitution for the fax destination number as it used to take place sometimes. There was only rather abstract word "Receiver" which couldn't commit one to anything.

On the same day, I sent my thing to the Washington office of the US Senator Mitch McConnell, the minority leader. The fax process was interrupted 8 (eight!) times for some reason.

Thank you.

Manifesto "Dyudrok". Bill of Rights those who live in their own reality.
  rotte_volf

02:07am 05/11/2008
We the modern artists appeal to Mr Obama to support the manifesto "Dyudrok" - the programm of new reality. We hope, that if he will be elected President of the US give it for the consideration of US Congress.

Manifesto "Dyudrok"

(New Experimental Art)

1. In connection with the so-called global crisis art movement "POP-REVOLUTION"
(with the partial assistance of ART-REVOLUTION) and the artist Artyom Suslov
as well as several other free artists decided to create and implement the concept of
promotion of new art "Dyudrok."

The essence of this art is to re-establish the own way of avant-garde and surrealism.
Dyudrok included any avant-garde and modern art with blurred boundaries of genres and
unlimited fantasy of the author.

At the moment, the world economic system as well as world political system infringe
on the majority of rights, freedoms, opportunities and even hopes of man.
In this regard, decreasing the creative capacity of most people because
it decreases the level and scope of vision as well as the hope of translating its
into reality. At the time of the current crisis, a simple man forgets about high ideals,
he dreams at a low level. Dyudrok must to protect people from objective reality.
We believe - the objective reality that is at this level of crisis can and should move to
second place. We have the right to push it into second place if we give to the man a
new reality, which will carry the title of "objective". what is now "objective" will take
second place, or just disappear for a man.

Accordingly, we believe that everyone, regardless of his religious beliefs, his status in
the society, and regardless of the sanctions, which in future could be taken against the
"Dyudrok" has the right to go to the new reality at any time, partially or completely .

2. In our view, any human rights organization and any commission or authority that
to deal with human rights have the obligation to protect the right of every adult
in the transition, partial or complete, in a different reality.

3. If the man who entirely gone in a different reality according with the laws of this reality
can no longer be capable - this is his personal decision as the new reality does not contradict
the existing laws and not causing harm to anyone. Neither does the campaign leading cause harm.
No one is obliged to support the individual's life in old reality when he left a letter of
advice (note) with the signatures of witnesses.

4. The departure of a reality, as well as assistance in this, not an injury to humans,
because the only thing involved in this process - the human imagination.
But imagination does not belong to the bodi, as well as the experiments of the imagination
is not harmful for the rights of mental functions.
Accordingly, there is no room for any regulations on the intentional infliction of harm or death to
humans. Also note that imagination is fully subject to his master.

5. Relatives and friends of man who passed away in a different reality have the right to challenge the
decision through the courts or through the human rights organizations and and demand to return
him to the reality in which they are located. In doing so, c. 5 is partly contrary to the core - 1 item,
and further debate on this soil can be resolved only in the mutual agreement of the parties.

6. As Dyudrok is not limited with anything and depends only on the human imagination,
it does not conflict with any law and religious customs.

7. For the same reason (not limited and opportunity
giving own properties) Dyudrok and concept its development
and its veneration is not any organization or religion
nor the political movement. Because Dyudrok do not have its own symbols and beliefs.

The author of the Manifesto is Artyom Suslov.

Dear friends:
I got your respond (dated 09.30.08) for my complaint (09.18.08). Thank you so much.
However, I would like to know, who has personally signed this response. I would like to be aware about the names of the attornies who have taken part in the discussion about the facts I provided as well.
Moreover, my complaint consisted of the 18 pages text and the 2 pages covering letter (totally 20 pages). Did they see all of them? I am asking because there was no a word about the covering letter in their response. Meanwhile, the letter contained rather interesting information.
I would appreciate it very much if you clarify my confusion regarding these my questions
Thank you.
Vladimir Krylovskiy"

On October 14, 2008 I was given a call by a woman. She presented herself as lawyer Lisa Laplace from the New York Civil Liberties Union and explained that she was calling in connection with my second letter. However, she started discussing my first letter to the NYCRU, but the second one.
She told that unfortunately the NYCLU would not be able to assist me with my matter, because as I had stated on the 5th page of my first letter... I interrupted her:
- Lisa, the only thing I would like to know is: who has personally signed the NYCLU response dated September 30, 2008, and who bears the personal responsibility for it?
From that moment her behavior seemed to be rather strange. She told me that she had no idea about that, was not able to find it out and suggested me to consider that all of the lawyers who were the members of the New York Legal Intake Committee bore the collective responsibility for that response.
- OK, Lisa, in this case... Could you call me the names of the lawers who has taken part in the discussion of the facts I provided? How many of them have been there? Do you know them personally?
It turned out that she couldn't but know them personally because, as she stated, she had taken part in the discussion herself. However, in spite of that, she said that she was not able to tell me their names. She mentioned again the collective responsibility, which all the lawyers of the New York Legal Intake Committee bore for the response to me, and summed up:
- Just go to the website www.NYCLU.org. You will see their names there and find everything you need.
I wanted to ask her, if the names of the attornies, whom she had discussed my complaint with two weeks ago, slipped her mind or they were placed in the secret list. But, I didn't dare to do that taking such a question as break of decency...
The circuit was closed.

Here is the NYCLU response letter, signed by attorney Laplace, which I got in a couple of days after our telephone conversation I have just expounded above:

Mr. Vladimir Krylovskiy
7314 21st Avenue #4-D
Brooklyn, New York 11204

Dear Mr. Krylovskiy:
We received your second request for legal assistance from the New York Civil Liberties Union ("NYCLU") regarding your concerns about "illicit" actions by American Secret Services". As we discussed in our telephone conversation today and as also mentioned in our previous response letter dated September 30, 2008, we unfortunately will not be able to assist you in this matter.

The NYCLU is a public interest law firm that principally addresses challenges to a government law, policy, or practice affecting the constitutional rights of a significant number of people arising in the State of New York. While we receive a large number of complaints regarding violations of civil rights and civil liberties, the very few matters that we take on must have a substantiated basis for legal actions. As you state on page 5 of your letter, you are unable to accuse a specific person and can offer no evidence of the actions that concern you. And the evidence must be more than your word.

The complaint not only must raise a constitutional issue - violations of your rights by the government, but it also must be substaintiated by legal evidence. In sum, you must have objective proof beyond your claim in ordr to be able to take legal actions.

We sorry to be unable of help you, but we wish you luck in resolving this matter to your satisfaction

Sincerely,
Lisa Laplace

Allow me to comment this letter.
So, "We received your second request for legal assistance from the New York Civil Liberties Union..." As I would like to say: "Stop! That is not the truth, Ma'am! There have been no any my "second request for legal assistance from the New York Civil Liberties Union" whatever. Just take my second letter in your hands. What can you read? I thanked the NYCLU for the response and then wrote: "However, I would like to know, who has personally signed this response. I would like to be aware about the names of the attornies who have taken part in the discussion about the facts I provided as well".

It gets worse and worse as it goes on. "As we discussed in our telephone conversation today and as also mentioned in our previous response letter dated September 30, 2008, we unfortunately will not be able to assist you in this matter..." That is not true again! There have been no any our discussion on topic like that whatever. You merely mentioned that the NYCLU was not able to assist me because, as I stated on page 5 of my first letter... And that's it!
Here I interrupted you and changed the subject. We didn't return to it any more. Evidently, you had planned to make a discussion like that in order to have a legal possibility to mention of it in your letter. But it turned out otherwise. However, in spite of that, you said about the discussion in your letter showing things in the light as though such a discussion had taken place. For what purpose? And why did you say not a word about the real topic which was discussed in reality in our telephone conversation?

As far as page 5 of my letter is concerned... You are saying that I supposedly state that I am "unable to accuse a specific person and can offer no evidence" of the actions that concern me. But this idea is eradicated by you from the basic context of the letter. This is the well known method. Let me cite here the original extract of the text: "I can accuse nobody, prove nothing - everything is indemonstrable and difficult to catch (as it was in Moscow when KGB persecuted me for my journalistic activity). However, I am interesting in such a question. Is it possible in USA to carry out an unbiassed interdepartmental investigation regarding illicit methods of pressure upon a person by a certain state structures, which can be easily identified because of their unrestricted possibilities in overhearing his telephone and apartment, street shadowing, inspection of his correspondence?"

There is such an impression that Miss. Laplace has confined herself to reading only 4.5 pages of my complaint consisting of 18 pages, and has come to nothing more than my first document, dated April 12, 1996. Meanwhile, just 20 lines below on the same page (page 5) in the "PS" dated October 10, 2007, I said: "I have two medical reports made by two independent American doctors, saying that in April 1996 I was really poisoned with organic phosphates (poison matter affecting the central nervous system of a human being)" Is that nothing for attorney Laplace? (It is noteworthy, that both these medical reports were stolen from my apartament at one time. I had to restore them).
Moreover, there is a detailed description of a very interesting mehtod on the 6th page. The method is used by American Secret Services in order to disavow dangerous witnesses. They do that by creating faked psychiatric diagnoses.

Meanwhle, at the very end of my complaint, on page 18 one can read: "While an honest investigation (it could be interdepartmental one) I am ready to prove everything described above". Why did Miss. Laplace pass that statement over in silence? It should be interesting that it is just the 18th page which is often missing when I fax my complaint to somewhere. Each time when it happens I have to refax it.

There is another thing which seems to be strange. For some reason Miss. Laplace evades my question, if they have seen all of the pages (totally 20 pages) which were enclosed in the envelope delivered the NYCLU on September 18, 2008. In spite of my blunt question, Miss. Laplace says no a word about my covering letter. There have been no word about it in the first NYCLU response letter (dated September 30, 2008) as well. It looks like the people who have composed these responses prefer not to mention the covering letter for some reason as if it doesn't exist at all.
As far as attorney Laplace is concerned, she, as we see, has evaded all of the questions I raised in my second letter. In connection with this, I have one more question. Could I consider the New York Legal Intake Committee to bear a collective responsibility for her letter, I have just commented? For some reason there are any reference to the New York Legal Intake Committee neither in the letterhead, nor in the very text.
I wonder for what purpose attorney Laplace has composed such a letter? Whom is it advantageously for?

Troy Davis faces execution for the murder of Police Officer Mark MacPhail in Georgia. The Supreme Court declined to hear his appeal, despite a credible claim of innocence. 7 out of 9 witnesses have recanted, no murder weapon was found and no physical evidence linked Davis to the crime. The federal appeals court in Atlanta has issued a temporary stay. Show your support for justice in the case of Troy Davis by signing the petition below.

Urgent: 17 Uighur detainees held at Guantánamo

In a landmark ruling on 7 October 2008, Judge Ricardo Urbina ordered the government to release into the USA the 17 Uighur detainees still held at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. The government had earlier conceded that the 17 men are not “enemy combatants”, but the government is appealing the order, arguing that it “directly conflicts with the basic principle that the decision whether to admit an alien into the United States rests exclusively with the Executive”.

Call on the U.S. government to comply with the order, drop its appeals, bring the Uighur detainees into the USA, and work to find lawful, fair, safe and durable solutions in all their cases.

Take Action Now!

To whom it may be interesting

Dear friends,
On September 6, 2008 I posted on your website under the rubric "Secret Services" my article (three parts) containing a number of facts of serious violations of the basic Human Rights by American Secret Services. I also sent it to U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives - to Senator Patrick Leahy and Congressman John Conyers, the Heads of Judiciary Committees and some other Senators and Congressmen, who were the members of these Committees. Apart from that I directed my article (supplying it with a covering letter) to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) - the well known organization protecting Human Rights which are inseparable from civil liberties.
It is too early to expect any response from the legislators. I sent them my information several days ago. However, yesterday I received the response from the New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU). When I was reading it I had such a feeling that they had not seen my covering letter. Moreover, their respond sounded as though they had not at all seen the 2-nd and the 3-d parts of the text.
I would like to suggest the covering letter and their respond as well to your attention.
Thank you

Dear Madam,

At the very end of June I called to ACLU and said that I had a serious compromising information about American Secret Services. I was told that the best way for me to give it to ACLU is to send it to them by mail. However, I didn't do that.
The fact was that the text with that information written by me was a subject for a very intent attention of Secret Services. Because of that I apprehended that it could be distorted on its way. There have been several precedents for that. For example, when I had e-mailed that text to some my correspondents it underwent some changes almost each time. Sometimes it happened that one paragraph was missing, sometimes another one... It used to be that the key sentence of some paragraph was missing... All of that changed the sense of one or another paragraph absolutely. Sometimes while my posting the text in the Internet some paragraphs used to turn out also to be missing, another were moved from one place to another ...

I called by another ACLU phone number I had and asked the woman who responded me (she turned out to be Jean Grove) to permit me to fax my text to her so that she could give it to the proper person. She agreed with courtesy, and I did it (I have the fax report in my records). After that I got in touch with Mrs. Grove and she assured me that she had given my information to the person whom it might concern.

In two months, at the beginning of September I called to ACLU again аnd was very surprised to find out that there were no any records of my case in their computer - neither my name, nor the address, the phone number, the zip code... Of course, I gave a call Mrs. Grove. She told me that she didn't remember the name of the person whom she had given my text to...
Now I am mailing the documents (18 pages of the very text plus these 2 pages of this covering letter, totally 20 pages) to ACLU once again. For this once I am sending it by overnight mail.

Thank you.

NYCLU Legal Intake Committee
September 30, 2008

Mr. Vladimir Krylovskiy
7314 21s1 Avenue #4-D
Brooklyn, New York 11204

Dear Mr. Krylovskiy:

We write in response to your request fоr legal assistance from the New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU). Our team of attorneys and staff have carefully reviewed and discussed the facts you have provided and have determined that we cannot assist you with your case.

Please understand that we receive a large number of complaints regarding violations of civil rights and civil liberties, and generally we are able to accept very few cases from among those presented to us, having the most significant civil liberties issues. The result is that we must sometimes decline to help people who may have meritorious claims. However, you may wish to contact the Bar Association at (212) 626-7373 for a legal referral.

As a general matter, we do not take cases that involve individual criminal defense, claims of innocence by prisoners, individual employment disputes, disputes involving private companies, and landlord-tenant disputes. We also do not generally take cases that seek only monetary damages or cases of any type that turn on factual disputes (as opposed to questions about the legal validity of a government law, policy, or practice).

Thank you for taking the time to contact the NYCLU. We wish you the best in resolving your concerns.

Sincerely
Legal Intake Committee
